Cori Gauff v Liudimilla Samsonova Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players including one in the qualifiers of an event in 2019. Gauff has won them both in three sets.

For starters it was a surprise to see Belinda Bencic start off a favourite against Gauff in their quarterfinal, with the Swiss number one going into the encounter at 8/11 odds. This is a seventh-ranked player she was up against after all.
And Gauff showed what she is capable of as she not only won but did so with so much panache that it’s tough to see her getting written off like the way she was again.
Gauff was on court for an hour and 28 minutes and was broken twice in the encounter but those two formed a part of the three games she lost in total in the match. The American came through 6-1, 6-2 with six breaks of serves in the encounter.
That had followed a straight-set victory over Hailey Baptiste in the previous round as well and Gauff will now hope to make it three in three as she hopes to rebuild her form in the lead-up to the US Open.

Samsonova Tames Kostyuk
Unlike Gauff, Samsonova did not have a first round bye but that has only meant she has had an even better time in the tournament, winning three matches in a row to make it to the last four.
It’s this momentum that will hold her in a good stead as she takes on the world number seven after Samsonova registered her third successive straight-set win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Marta Kostyuk.
Samsonova had earlier crushed Danielle Collins 6-1, 6-3 in the first round before usurping Sorana Cirstea by the same scoreline.
And in the quarterfinals, Samsonova overcame the Kostyuk serve five times, shrugging off a 0-2 deficit in the encounter to clinch the victory.
This is just the second time this season that Samsonova has won three matches in a row. Can she now make the final for the second time too, having done that at Abu Dhabi where she lost to Bencic.

Gauff starts off a favourite and rightly so for the kind of performance she dished out earlier. Straight sets but two hard-fought ones.
