Carlos Alcaraz v Hubert Hurkacz Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2022 Miami Masters and Alcaraz had needed two tie-breakers to make it past his opponent.

Alcaraz Tames Late Shelton Charge

In the end, it turned out to be a straight-set win for Alcaraz but he did face some difficulties late in the second set of his first match since winning Wimbledon.

Alcaraz overcame Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6 (3) to enter the third round of this competition for the first time in his career. Last year, Alcaraz had been bundled out in the second round by Tommy Paul despite having started out as the second seed.

In a match lasting an hour and 39 minutes, Alcaraz saved all the three break-points he faced but failed to earn himself a single break-point in the second set of the contest. In fact, Alcaraz won a mere nine points in six games of his opponent’s serve in the second set.

The tie-breaker that eventually followed, however, turned out to be a one-sided one as Alcaraz went 4-1 ahead and wrapped it up soon after.

Alcaraz will now be looking for his 12th win on hardcourt surfaces this season. He has lost just one match.

Hurkacz Overcomes Opening Set Nerves against Kecmanovic

Not too many expected Miomir Kecmanovic to put up any kind of a show against Hurkacz but for at least a set, he showed what he’s capable of.

The 2022 Canadian Open finalist looked to be in trouble in this second round encounter when he was unable to get past his opponent’s serve throughout the first set. And even more so when he dropped his own in the 11th game to lose the set soon after.

It looked like the second set was going the same way when Hurkacz failed to get his breakthrough as the two went neck in neck till the seventh game. In the eighth, however, Hurkacz began what was the start of a breaking-marathon.

He got past Kecmanovic’s serve there, served out the set and then went on to break his opponent three times in a row to clinch the match 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 in an hour and 53 minutes.

Things could get rather difficult now for Hurkacz against the world number one.

Alcaraz v Hurkacz Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz will hold the aces and while Hurkacz is no mug, we believe another straight-set win looks to be a near-certainty for the world number one.
