Daniil Medvedev v Alex de Minaur Head to Head

There have been five previous meetings between these two players and Medvedev has won four of them. The only time de Minaur clinched a victory was in Paris last year which was also their last meeting.

Medvedev Eases Past Musetti

After having struggled a bit in his straight-set win over Matteo Arnaldi in the second round, Medvedev needed an hour and a half to carve out a third round victory over Lorenzo Musetti.

Medvedev did not get his serving rhythm right but soon broke Musetti in the seventh game to grab the opening set. In the second, he took a 3-1 lead and looked to be on his way to a comfortable win when Musetti broke back in the sixth game.

Undeterred, Medvedev broke right back to take back the initiative before closing out the encounter 6-4, 6-4.

This was Medvedev’s 26th win in hardcourt competitions this season to go with a mere three defeats. Add that to his 5-0 record indoors and you have a man who absolutely loves his time in hardcourt competitions.

And while he will face a tough competition from de Minaur here, can expect Medvedev to come out all guns blazing.

de Minaur Edges Fritz

While Taylor Fritz is a top-10 player and was entering this competition on the back of some excellent hardcourt form, de Minaur was never going to be a pushover. In fact we had reckoned there was an upset brewing in that encounter and that’s exactly how things panned out with de Minaur defeating Fritz in a two and a half hour long encounter.

In a rather strange first set, de Minaur came back from being 2-5 down to break Fritz twice and push it into a tie-breaker. There, the Aussie led 6-2 at one stage but frittered away five set-points before winning the set off the fifth.

Fritz came back with an early break in the second set and this time around he held on to his serve throughout as de Minaur failed to earn a single break-point all set.

But just when it seemed that Fritz had found his serving mojo, de Minaur came back to break him twice in the first two service games of the decider.

Unlike what de Minaur did in the first set, Fritz failed to make any inroads into his opponent’s serve from that point onward, leaving the Aussie a winner.

Medvedev v de Minaur Prediction and Tip

Medvedev will be a favourite here but de Minaur’s form and his win in their previous meeting makes this an intriguing contest. A three-setter could be expected here.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6
