Jessica Pegula v Cori Gauff Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both have won one apiece. Pegula clinched their Dubai 2022 encounter while Gauff grabbed a win in Eastbourne earlier this year.

Pegula Routs Paolini

As was expected, Pegula did not waste too much time over her third round match, overcoming Jasmine Paolini in two easy sets to march into the last eight.

Having eased past Yulia Putintseva 6-4, 6-4 in her second round encounter following an opening bye, Pegula defeated Paolini 6-4, 6-0 in a match that lasted a mere 70 minutes.

The fourth seed grappled with some poor serving to begin things off as Paolini overcame an early break to level things off at 3-3. It was only in the 10th game that Pegula then upped the pressure on the Paolini serve, breaking her there and three more times to wrap things up.

This follows successive wins at the Washington Open last week as well where Maria Sakkari had ended her campaign. Can Pegula now stall the in-form Gauff or will things get harder for her?

Gauff Blasts Vondrousova Away

In a result that was not too different from the Pegula-Paolini one, Gauff overpowered the Wimbledon winner Marketa Vondrousova in two easy sets to march into the last eight stage.

Gauff registered her sixth successive win after having won the Washington Open title last week as he brushed Vondrousova aside 6-3, 6-0.

In a match that lasted a mere hour and three minutes, Gauff overturned an early trade of breaks of serves to take a 4-2 lead in the first set. Vondrousova saved a set-point on her own serve in the eighth game going on to win that game but might not have realised that was the last time she would win a game in the match.

From that point on, Gauff won seven games in a row to clinch her quarterfinal berth.

Having already dished out a one-sided win against Katie Boulter in her previous match, this could turn out to be her first real test in the tournament.

Pegula v Gauff Prediction and Tip

It’s tough to go against Gauff given the kind of form she has been over the past two weeks and that’s also reflected in the odds. Gauff is 8/11 to win this and we will be going with her for this win.

Tips:
