Marketa Vondrousova v Sloane Stephens Head to Head

Vondrousova Routs Potapova
Having never gone past the first round in this tournament, Vondrousova earned herself an opening bye here this time around to better her previous record by default. And then in the second round, she routed Anastasia Potapova to earn her first main draw victory in Cincinnati.
Vondrousova, who had was soundly beaten by Cori Gauff in the third round of the Canadian Open last week, did not waste too much in getting past Potapova 6-4, 6-2.
In a match lasting an hour and 12 minutes, Vondrousova was broken three times including when she fell 0-2 down in the first set but it never looked like she was behind the eight ball. She quickly recovered from that loss of serve, breaking her opponent twice in the opening set and four more times in the second set.
What Vondrousova will now be hoping for is her first ever appearance in the quarterfinal of a WTA 1000 event this season. She has obviously made it to the fourth rounds at Indian Wells, Miami and Rome but never gone beyond that.

Stephens Sends Garcia Packing
Caroline Garcia has hit some of her worst recent form but that did not meant Stephens had gone into their second round match as a favourite.
And when Garcia managed to grab the first set, it looked like the Frenchwoman and world number six had the match under her control.
Stephens, however, fought back and did that well. Having sent Elisabetta Cocciaretto packing in the first round, she came back to win the next two sets and clinch her third round berth 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in two and a half hours.
While Stephens was herself broken four times including twice in the decider, she looked far superior of the two players. So much so, she did not let the act of a 0-3 deficit in the final set slipping away deter her too much as she broke Garcia for the third time in the set in the ninth game.
This time around, Stephens served it out to grab the win.
Vondrousova could prove to be a different kettle of fish though.

Backing Vondrousova to get her serve right and win in two but even if she struggles with that, we expect her to scrape through.
