Cori Gauff v Karolina Muchova Head to Head

Gauff and Muchova have never faced off in a competitive match before.

Gauff in Maiden Swiatek Win

Gauff had played Iga Swiatek seven times before this and lost every single time. It was probably one of the most one-sided rivalry in current tennis between two players in the top 10 and Gauff (who was 1/3 with bet365) was out to correct that in their semifinal here in Cincinnati.

Two hours and 52 minutes and three sets later, Gauff had managed to complete a terrific maiden win over Swiatek while at the same time she also made the final of a WTA 1000 event for the first time ever.

The American faced 14 break-points in the encounter and while she was broken four times, she retaliated with three breaks of her own. More importantly, she won the crucial first set tie-breaker after Swiatek had had a chance to serve out the set at 5-3 and then had set-points at 6-5 as well.

Two breaks of serves in the second set levelled things out for Swiatek but at 3-3 in the decider, she dropped her serve for the third time in the match. Gauff then saved a break-point in the eighth and the 10th game to scrape through to her maiden win over the world number one.

Can Gauff now break new grounds by winning a WTA 1000 competition for the first time in her career?

Muchova Makes Top 10 On Her Way To Beating Sabalenka

Muchova has had a sparkling tournament in Cincinnati and in what was another superlative performance she came back from a set behind to defeat the world number two Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinal.

In a match lasting two hours and 39 minutes, Muchova overcame Sabalenka 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-2 to not only help herself to her own maiden WTA 1000 final but also break into the top 10 when the rankings release the next week.

Having already defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia and Maria Sakkari in some of the previous rounds, Muchova lost her serve a mere two times in the encounter but overcame Sabalenka’s on five occasions. This included two breaks of serves in the final set.

Earlier Muchova had a chance to win the opening set when she served for it at 5-4 but was broken and then went on to squander a 3-1 lead in the tie-breaker.

She will now play a resurgent Gauff for the first time in her career and it could turn out to be yet another uphill battle for the Czech.

Gauff v Muchova Prediction and Tip

Gauff is 1/2 (bet365) to win this, which is not such a big surprise given the manner in which she has turned things around in recent times under the tutelage of Brad Gilbert. Expect Muchova to put up a fight but for Gauff to come through.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Gauff to win: 1/2 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
