Carlos Alcaraz v Novak Djokovic Head to Head

This will be the fourth iteration of their rivalry with Alcaraz leading 2-1. This includes a title win for Alcaraz at Wimbledon 2023 with a five-set win over Djokovic in the final.

They have never faced off in a hardcourt match before this.

Alcaraz Wins Scrappy Against Hurkacz Again

For the fourth successive time in the Cincinnati Masters, Alcaraz went in as a huge favourite with bet365 offering 1/3 for his semifinal victory against Hubert Hurkacz.

Less than an hour and a quarter later, Alcaraz was facing a match-point on his own serve having gotten broken twice in the first set and been unable to break his opponent in the second.

Fortunately for the world number one, he saved that and in the ensuing tie-breaker, overcame a 2-0 deficit to race off to a 7-4 win.

With his confidence back, Alcaraz then broke Hurkacz for the first time in the match in the fourth game of the decider. Clinical with his own serving, the Spaniard did not allow Hurkacz to get any opportunities to break as he served it out in the ninth game of the third set.

This follows three-set wins over Jordan Thompson, Tommy Paul and Max Purcell in which Alcaraz has shown he has not been at his best but added another dimension to his game – he has been scrapping to wins despite looking the second-best through most of it.

The trouble for Alcaraz is he now comes up against a player who can maintain his intensity through most part of the encounter and won’t be giving him too many chances. Can he raise his levels as he looks to overturn the 13/10 (with bet365) odds here?

Djokovic Made to Work by Zverev

In a match that lasted two hours and six minutes, Djokovic (who was 3/10 to win it with bet365) managed to find a way past Alexander Zverev and seal his finals berth. This wasn’t without its moments though where Zverev could have found a way past his Serbian opponent only to be thwarted by the world number two.

In the very first game of the match, Djokovic faced three break-points which he saved while squandering three of his own in the 10th game as Zverev served to stay in it.

Djokovic went 4-1 up in the tie-breaker and while he missed two set-points at 6-3 he soon converted the third one to take the lead.

Taking advantage of the momentum shift, Djokovic broke Zverev in the first game of the second set before looking to serve for the match at 5-4. Zverev broke him at this crucial juncture but Djokovic came roaring back with a second break before serving it out to grab the win.

This was Djokovic’s fourth successive straight-set win having overcome Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Gael Monfils and Taylor Fritz in the previous rounds without dropping a set.

The question is if he can continue with the same momentum against one of the hottest tennis stars in recent times. We think so.

Alcaraz v Djokovic Prediction and Tip

Djokovic has looked at his sharpest best despite all that has been thrown at him. Alcaraz has looked like he will never give up. All in all we think Djokovic will win this but not before Alcaraz has taken it to a third set.
