Venus Williams v Mirra Andreeva Head to Head

Venus and Andreeva have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Venus Has Three Wins This Year

Venus Williams has continued to surprise tennis fans with her desire to continue playing despite being 43, struggling with fitness issues and not having results go her way either.

Still, it must be quickly added that Venus has won three of the nine matches she has played this season including a shock victory over Veronika Kudermetova at the Cincinnati Open. This was despite the fact that Venus had started off as a 5/1 underdog (with bet365) in that encounter.

And even in the second round there, while Venus lost to Qinwen Zheng, it wasn’t before she had grabbed the first set.

She will now hope to take advantage of her years of experience – which is more than her opponent’s age! – as she makes her Cleveland Open debut. Can she make it to her fourth win here?

Andreeva Hasn’t Played a Hardcourt Match This Year

For a player who won a couple of ITF tournaments on the hardcourt surface, it’s a surprise that Andreeva hasn’t played a single match on that surface this season so far.

The world number 67, who recently hit her career-best ranking of 62nd following her fourth round appearance at Wimbledon after starting out as a qualifier, then proceeded to feature at the Lausanne Open on clay. There she made the second round before falling to Anna Bondar.

Nearly a month onward, Andreeva will now feature in the first ever match of her career on the North American hardcourt swing.

If you are wondering how she went on this surface last year, her overall record is a pretty solid 21-5. None of those matches obviously came on the WTA circuit and she will hope she can kick-start that part of her journey with a win.

Williams v Andreeva Prediction and Tip

Williams might have upset Kudermetova in her previous tournament but we expect Andreeva to not have a lot of trouble here. A straight-set win looks likely.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Andreeva to win: 3/10 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Andreeva to win in straight sets: 5/6 (with bet365)
