Sloane Stephens v Lauren Davis Head to Head

There have been five previous meetings between these two players with Davis leading 3-2. This includes a win for Davis as recently as the Washington Open earlier this month.

Stephens Made Third Round in Cincinnati

While Stephens has been known for her inconsistencies, her more recent runs in tournaments have been much more solid. In face since losing five of the six matches she played in March, Stephens looks to have turned the corner.

It started with a title win in a WTA 125 tournament in Saint-Malo before she made the semifinal of the Rabat Open.

Stephens continued with that form at the French Open when she stunned Karolina Pliskova in the first round on her way to the fourth round.

More recently, in the North American hardcourt swing, Stephens entered the third round at the Canadian Open and then shocked Caroline Garcia on her way to the third round in Cincinnati.

That said, a 7-10 win-loss record in hardcourt competitions this year makes Stephens (8/11 with bet365) a bit wary against an opponent who has a favourable win-loss record.

Davis Struggling for Form

Despite having a 3-2 win-loss record against Stephens, Davis doesn’t quite start the favourite (11/10 with bet365) in this encounter and that is down to her horrid recent run.

In fact over the last six tournaments she has participated in, Davis has won just one main draw match which came in Washington where she defeated Stephens in the first round after coming in as a qualifier.

Other than that, first round losses in Birmingham, Eastbourne, Wimbledon and Montreal have been juxtaposed next to her performance in Cincinnati last week where she was bundled out in the qualifiers itself. Ann Li, who was an 8/5 underdog going into that encounter, came back from a set down to end Davis’ campaign.

Davis will now hope she can conjure up a way to notch up a rare main draw win in recent times.

Stephens v Davis Prediction and Tip

While Stephens starts off a favourite there’s not much to choose between these two players and we can probably look at the games market in this.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
