Djere Eases Past Diaz Acosta

Last year’s finalist Laslo Djere began this year’s campaign with a straightforward win over Argentina’s Facundo Diaz Acosta in the second round on Tuesday.

Djere won 84% points on the back of his first delivery, saved 2 of 3 break points and converted half of eight to beat the world no. 93, 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 31 minutes.

The Serbian, who went down to Adrian Mannarino in the first round last year, has been in great form recently, finishing runner-up in Hamburg and reaching the semifinals in Kitzbuhel. But those performances came on clay and now he will have to adjust to the hard court quickly. The world no. 34 lost out in the qualifying rounds in Cincinnati last week, so he will be relieved to have scored his first win on hard since Miami.

Djere wil now be looking to reach his sixth quarterfinal of the season and only the second on hard court, since his run to teh last eight in Auckland.

Michelsen Holds Off Ofner

American wild card Alex Michelsen continued to impress at the tour level as he held off Sebastian Ofner on Tuesday to reach the round of 16 at Winston-Salem.

Michelsen, who will turn 19 on August 25, was broken in the very first game of the match by the 15th seed. However, he fought back and took the first set in the tiebreak. In the second, Michelsen was the first to break to take a 3-2 lead. Ofner got teh break back in the eighth game but the American then got a decisive break in the 11th game as he broke the Austrian to love before sealing the match 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.

Michelesen, who reached his maiden ATP final in Newport last month, is currently ranked no. 133 and is making a charge towards the top 100.

He had begun his Winston-Salem campaign with a 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-0 win over Juan Pablo Varillas. Can he keep the momentum going?

Djere v Michelsen Prediction and Tip

Michelsen has been in better form on hard courts this year, with a 23-8 record and a maiden Challenger title on the surface. But almost all those wins came in lower level tournaments. Yet he is looking dangerous and will challenge the Serb. Djere is far more experienced than the American and despite Michelsen’s ability to punch above the weight, the Serb should use all his experience and come out on top.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Djere to win: 4/5 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 23.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
