Anhelina Kalinina v Tatjana Maria Head to Head
They have played each other once before and that came in Hobart earlier this year. Kalinina had edged out Maria in three.

Having faced a first round ouster in the Cleveland Open last year, Kalinina clinched a second round spot this season with a straightforward win over Ana Bogdan.
The world number 28, who hasn’t had the best of times recently, routed Bogdan 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and a half to clinch just her fifth victory in nearly three months. Kalinina, who had made the final of the Italian Open, has struggled to get going since then with just four second round appearances and four opening ousters to her name.
But struggle is what she did not do against Bogdan as she faced just one break-point in the entire match and even that came after she was serving at 6-2, 4-1. While Bogdan broke her there, Kalinina came back to win the next two games and the match.
The question now is if Kalinina can make it two wins in a row for the first time since Rome. The bookmakers certainly think so with bet365 offering 4/6 for her win.

Maria Edges Gracheva
It did take Maria three sets to get past her opening opponent Varvara Gracheva but that was almost on expected lines. She was 4/5 (with bet365) to win the encounter to go with the 10/11 odds on offer for a Gracheva and while it took her an hour and 51 minutes to get through, Maria managed to seal her second round berth.
This win follows a hardcourt title win in the WTA 125 competition in Barranquilla last week, where Maria was in such a ravenous form she dropped a maximum of three games in a set. Overall she lost 14 games over five matches on her way to winning the title there.
And even before that, Maria had even made the semifinal at the Warsaw Open which gives her a bit of a confident edge coming into this one against a player who hasn’t done too much of note.
Add the fact that the last time she had met Kalinina it turned out to be a hard-fought three-setter, we can expect Maria to not give up in a hurry.

Given what has gone about in recent times, it’s a surprise Kalinina starts off a favourite here but it could be to do with her signs of getting back to form in the first round.
