Petra Kvitova v Cristina Bucsa Head to Head

Kvitova and Bucsa have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Kvitova in Slight Struggle Since Berlin Title

She is 33 but Kvitova continues to remain one of the most consistent players on the circuit. And that can be seen from how the left-hander has gone about her business in 2023 as well, winning two titles at the highest level.

This includes one earlier in the season at the Miami Open where she prevented Elena Rybakina from claiming the Sunshine Double, defeating her in a hard-fought final.

Kvitova then went on to claim a tournament win on grass, defeating Caroline Garcia, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Donna Vekic on her to way to lifting the trophy in Berlin.

Since then, Kvitova would have liked to do a lot better than her 5-3 win-loss record. This includes a third round loss at the Canadian Open and a second round defeat in Cincinnati, losing to Linda Noskova in the latter.

As performances in majors go, Kvitova has made the semifinal at each of them at least twice apiece except the US Open. And since 2017, she has not even made the last eight stage.

Will all of this play a part this early in the competition though? We certainly doubt it as she starts off a 2/9 with bet365 to win this.

Bucsa Does Well in Chicago

At the time of writing, Cristina Bucsa had reached the semifinal of the WTA 125 event in Chicago on the back of wins over Kolie Allen and Rebecca Peterson and a walkover from Varvara Lepchenko.

This had been preceded by back to back qualification round wins at both, Montreal and Cincinnati which enabled her to make it to the main draw of those tournaments.

Earlier this year, Bucsa wasn’t even in the top 100 of the rankings and was forced to come through the Australian Open qualifiers to make it to the first round. She defeated Eva Lys and stunned Bianca Andreescu on her way to her best ever performance at a Grand Slam – a third round showing – before Iga Swiatek ended his campaign.

All of this is a pointer towards her preference about playing in hardcourt competitions, but she doesn’t have the greatest record against top-20 players. No surprises then that she is 10/3 (with bet365) to win this.

Kvitova v Bucsa Prediction and Tip

Kvitova shouldn’t have a lot of difficulties here and with Bucsa having played as recently as two days before this match, she could take her time to recover from it, allowing her opponent an easy way through.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Kvitova to win in straight sets: 8/11 (with bet365)
