Andy Murray is hoping for a really good start at the US Open, though he got a tricky draw. Corentin MOutet is a player who can and will beat you on his day, making this a complicated endeavour for the former world number one.
Murray has been pretty solid, though, he’s played plenty of matches leading up to the US Open with some notable wins as well. He beat players like Brandon Nakashima, Lorenzo Sonego and Max Purcell, all of whom are very solid players.
The US Open has been a good event for him, he had some decent performances there over time, so it will be interesting to see whether he can do it again. He’ll need to be serious, though as Moutet has the skills to make his life miserable.
Overall though, I think Murray will get it done. He’s 29-13 on the year and 13.6 on hard courts. Moutet being somewhat of a hothead certainly plays into Murray’s hands. He can frustrate him with long rallies.

Moutet Eyeing Upset
Corentin Moutet is a very fascinating player as his best can be about top 30 level good. The problem is a lack of consistency and an affinity to get annoyed rather easily. We’ve seen him lose his cool too many times on a tennis court, and it’s never going to get you far in the sport.
That’s one problem he’ll need to tackle against Murray, as the Brit will try to extend rallies and wait for errors. Moutet will need to find a balance between his aggressive style and Murray’s defensive capabilities.
He’s not had the best of years with an 11-15 record, and even his hard court record is not stellar at 4-5. His form recently has been decent. He defeated two solid players in Cincinnati but didn’t do much outside of that. The wins were over Matteo Arnaldi and Daniel Altmaier while he lost to Daniel Taro and Emil Ruusuvuori.
If he can tap into that level he’ll be a threat to Murray but more generally it’s going to be a really tough matchup for him.
