Five of Kasatkina’s six career WTA titles have come in hardcourt competitions. And yet, her performance on that surface has been anything but exemplary so far.
She sure made the the final of the Adelaide International in January, needing just two wins to get there with a bye and a walkover aiding her cause. But other than that, Kasatkina did not have the greatest of starts to the season in hardcourt competitions.
It’s only more recently that Kasatkina has been able to build on some momentum, reaching the quarterfinal of the Canadian Open with three successive wins and the third round at the Cincinnati Open.
It took the likes of Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka to end her runs in those two competitions, which is a bit of a silver lining but if she wants to go deeper than usual at this competition she will need to start changing that aspect as well.
What needs to be seen is how she goes about her business against a vastly-improved Parks in this slightly tricky opener. She is a whopping 1/5 (with bet365) to win this.

Parks Hoping to Replicate Lyon Magic
Only last year in January, Parks was ranked outside the top 200 but slowly and steadily and aided by a WTA title win, she broke into the top 40 earlier this year.
Parks is currently 43rd in the world with that tournament victory in Lyon in February ensuring she now has an easier pathway to featuring in top level tournaments like the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open earlier this month.
She was able to come through the qualifiers in Canada and then overcame Lauren Davis in the first round there before losing to Belinda Bencic. Unfortunately for Parks, she failed to make the main draw in Cincinnati.
And it’s inconsistencies like these that could make things difficult for Parks here at the US Open as well. Especially while coming up against a player who was in the top-10 very recently.
