Alize Cornet v Elina Avanesyan Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before.

This will be the first match between the 33 year old Frenchwoman, and Avanesyan, who is 13 years younger.

Cornet Set Grand Slam Record Last Year

Cornet first appeared at the US Open in 2007, but it took her until 2020 to reach the fourth round here, although she has made the third round several times, including last year, where she set a record for consecutive Grand Slam appearances.

In fact, it was only in her thirties that she achieved her best performance at a Grand Slam, when she reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in 2022.

She has won six WTA titles in her career, although the last of those was five years ago, and there have been few signs recently that she is capable of adding to that, although she did reach the quarter-finals in both Lausanne and Prague.

After failing to qualify in Cincinnati, she entered the Chicago Challenger event, where she was beaten in the second round.

Avanesyan Reached French Open Fourth Round

Last year Avanesyan made her Grand Slam debut in New York, although she subsequently lost her first round match.

She failed to qualify in both Melbourne and Wimbledon this year, but sandwiched between those tournaments was the French Open, where she not only qualified, but reached the fourth round, before losing to the eventual finalist Karolina Muchova.

One of those players who preferred to stick to clay as long as possible, last month she reached the quarter-finals in both Hungary and Lausanne.

Her one match since then on American hard courts did not go according to plan. She was beaten in the first round of the Challenger event in Chicago.

Cornet v Avanesyan Prediction and Tip

As far as this tournament is concerned, there is a chasm in terms of the experience of both players, and Cornet will be looking to exploit that to her advantage.

Avanesyan may come to regret not having had more practice on American hard courts.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Cornet to win: 5/7 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 22.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
