Petra Martic v Tatjana Maria Head to Head

Martic leads 3-1, last beating Maria in Chicago in 2018.

Martic on a Slow Roll

Petra Martic, starting in the US Open as World No. 37, is coming off a rather bleak buildup.

Playing in three warm-up tournaments – Citi Open, Canadian Open, and Cincinnati Open – the Croat could manage just two wins against three losses. It could be argued that she was handed a tricky draw, seeing that her last two losses came against Aryna Sabalenka and Karolina Muchova. That said, she also lost to Sorana Cirstea in Washington, DC.

Martic’s year-to-date record stands at 21-18, with her runner-up feat at the Linz Open in February being her best result. Since then, the best Petra has done is reaching the quarterfinal in the Madrid Open and WTA Eastbourne.

The 32-year-old has reached the fourth round in the US Open a couple of times, while last season, she was dismissed in round three. All signs indicate a good start for her.

Maria Continues to Impress

Tatjana Maria is one of the seniormost active players on the WTA Tour. At age 36, she continues to thrive and is on par to deliver another career-best season.

The German closed last season at 43-29; so far, she is already 40-24 with three titles – Copa Colsanitas, Barranquilla Challenger, and ITF Pune. In addition, she was the runner-up in ITF Gaiba.

Moreover, the current World No. 47 is coming off a good run, too – that 125K title in Colombia was followed by a semifinal showing in Tennis in the Land, where she moved past Varvara Gracheva, Anhelina Kalinina, and Leylah Fernandez.

While the numbers look good for Tatjana, her record at the Flushing Meadows leaves much to be desired. Maria has not made it to round three in her nine appearances so far. Perhaps, the 10th time is the charm?

Maria v Martic Prediction and Tip

This one should be good. Martic may have a better WTA Tour pedigree, but Maria is fielding some incredible form. She has been truly phenomenal on all three surfaces; add to this her brilliant experience, and the equation equals a solid chance for the German to take this home.
