Ekaterina Alexandrova v Lesia Tsurenko Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players and surprise, surprise, Tsurenko has won every one of them. Even more surprising is the fact that Alexandrova is yet to win a set against her.

Alexandrova Needs Her Time Against Fernandez

While Leylah Fernadez is no longer playing at her best, she is a former US Open runner-up and was never going to make things easy for Alexandrova. So while Alexandrova started off an 8/11 favourite in her opener, the match went into its fourth hour and the Russian needed three sets to go past her opponent.

Alexandrova, who had come into this year’s US Open with a runner-up trophy under her belt at the Cleveland Open last week, edged out Fernandez 7-6 (4), 5-7, 6-4 to reach round two of the US Open for the sixth time in her career.

A total of 36 break-points were on offer in the encounter with Alexandrova dropping her serve a whopping seven times. What saved her was Fernandez’s issues with her own serves which saw her offer 20 breaking opportunities to her opponent leading to eight breaks of serves.

Come the second round, Alexandrova has another brutal battle on the cards now as she aims to make it to the third round here for the first time in her career. She starts a 3/5 favourite to do so with bet365.

Tsurenko Stretched by Jacquemot

She was a 3/10 favourite going into her opening round encounter but Tsurenko found the going very tough in her match against Elsa Jacquemot.

In the end, Tsurenko triumphed and made it to the second round but not before she needed two hours and seven minutes and three sets to get past her 181st-ranked opponent.

Tsurenko was broken five times in her 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 win over Jacquemot and it was only in the final set that an otherwise close contest blew wide up when the Ukrainian player got the better of her opponent’s serve twice.

This follows a rather underwhelming showing from Tsurenko on hardcourt surfaces recently having been forced to withdraw from the main draw at the Canadian Open and losing her qualifiers in Cincinnati.

Can she maintain her 100% win record against Alexandrova here as she begins as a 13/10 underdog (with bet365)?

Alexandrova v Tsurenko Prediction and Tip

Given all that has transpired there is every chance that Alexandrova finally overturns her poor record against Tsurenko and wins this for a change. She has the odds in her favour for sure.
