Madison Keys v Yanina Wickmayer Head to Head

Keys and Wickmayer have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Keys Eases Past Rus

Keys hasn’t had the greatest of times since switching back to the hardcourt competition swing in the US with the American having had fitness concerns too.

After making the quarterfinals at the Washington Open, she lost to Maria Sakkari there and was then forced to afford her second round opponent at the Montreal Open a walkover. She then returned at the Cincinnati Open, only to lose to Elise Mertens in the opener there.

Which is why this result against Arantxa Rus was a much needed one for the world number 17.

Keys was on court for an hour and 27 minutes as she went past Rus 6-2, 6-4 to seal her second round spot. She saved all three of the break-points that went against her while overcoming her opponent’s serve on three occasions.

She is now a 1/5 favourite with bet365 to win this second round encounter as she looks to emulate her 2022 US Open showing.

Wickmayer Finally Wins a Round at the US Open

The last time Wickmayer came through her first round match at this tournament was way back in 2017. The 2009 semifinalist has, since then, fallen off the rankings grid as well her performances have suffered.

And things didn’t look to be going her way either when Wickmayer fell in the third round of the qualifying this year, having been forced to retire from the encounter because of fitness concerns.

As luck would have it, she became one of the lucky losers to get a chance again and this time around it looked like she had regained her fitness.

That’s exactly how things went as she overcame Vera Zvonareva in her opener, winning 6-4, 6-4 to reach the second round. Interestingly, she had started off a 7/10 favourite too, with bet365, and for her to live up to them and win another main draw match in recent times would be a huge boost.

Testing Keys will be a different proposition though with Wickmayer starting out a 4/1 (bet365) underdog in this.

Keys v Wickmayer Prediction and Tip

Keys, if fully fit, should not have a lot of trouble and we can expect a straight-set win for the American.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Keys to win in straight sets: 4/6 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 4/5 (with bet365)
