World no. 5 Ons Jabeur battled past no. 31 Marie Bouzkova in a three-hour third round contest on Saturday.
The Tunisian, who has suffered from a respiratory illness this week, lost the first set and then dug deep to hold off a gallant Bouzkova, who fought on despite being in pain and even needing a lengthy medical timeout.
Jabeur struck 56 winners but also made 63 unforced errors in the game. She also had trouble in getting the first serve in, getting only 48% of them right.
Both players broke each other five times each but it was the Tunisian, who won the key moments to reach the second week for the second time at the US Open. Last year was the first time when she did that and went all the way to the final before falling to Iga Swiatek.
A three-time Grand slam finalist, she has somehow kept her chances of a first major title alive this week. Her first two rounds were equally tough, but Jabeur managed to beat Camila Osorio 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) in the first round, and then edged out Linda Noskova 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 6-3 in the second round.

Zheng Beats Bronzetti in Three
China’s Qinwen Zheng reached the fourth round of a major for the second time in her career as she knocked out Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti in three sets on Saturday.
In a two-hour-and-40-minute contest, the world no. 23 Zheng saved 8 of 13 break points and converted 6 of 13 to beat the world no. 76, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
It was a second straight three-set win for Zheng, who had beaten Kaia Kanepi 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 in the second round. She had a straightforward win to start her campaign, handing Nadia Podoroska a 6-1, 6-0 rout.
Zheng had reached the third round in her maiden US Open appearance last year. An improved player this year, the 20-year-old has gone a step further.

Jabeur v Zheng Prediction and Tip
Jabeur is the favourite. She is the more experienced player and has played in three of the last five grand slam finals. So despite her health concerns, she is expected to go through to the quarterfinals.
