Gauff Routs Ostapenko

World no. 6 Coco Gauff handed Jeļena Ostapenko a straight sets drubbing in the quarterfinal on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old needed just 69 minutes to dispatch the Latvian in a one-sided contest. Gauff dropped just 7 points in the first set as she bagelled Ostapenko. The Latvian did break the American once in the second set, but Gauff quickly took control after the initial stutter to race to a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

Gauff would be relieved to have finished this quickly after back-to-back three-setters in the previous two rounds. She had beaten Elise Mertens 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 in the third round and Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the fourth round.

Gauff had also needed three sets to dispatch her opening round opponent, Laura Siegemund, rallying past the German 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

She had a relatively easy second round, beating Mirra Andreeva 6-3, 6-2.

A quarterfinalist last year, Gauff has gone a step ahead in the final major this year. It is just the second time that she has reached this far in a Grand slam. The last time she did that, it was at the French Open in 2022, where she went on to reach the final.

Gauff is 43-13 this season and is currently on a 10-match winning streak, having come into the tournament as the Cincinnati champion. Can she keep the streak going?

Muchova Breezes Past Cirstea

Karolina Muchova marched into the semifinal of a Grand Slam for a third time in her career and a second time this year as she knocked out the dangerous Sorana Cirstea in straight sets in the quarterfinal on Tuesday.

The Czech, ranked no. 10th in the world, needed an hour and 39 minutes to beat the Romanian 6-0, 6-3. Muchova saved 10 of 11 break points and and converted 6 of 11. She also served 6 aces in teh match and struck 32 winners to knock out the 30th seed.

Muchova, who had never gone past the fourth round at the US Open, improved to 38-12 with the win. She is 10-1 from her last 11 matches, having finished as runner-up in Cincinnati.

She has looked good throughout the tournament, having scored straight set wins over Storm Hunter, Magdalena Fręch and Taylor Townsend in the first three rounds respectively.

She had however needed three sets to win her fourth round match against Xinyu Wang, beating the Chinese player 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.

Muchova had reached her first major final at the French Open this year. Additionally she also reached her maiden WTA 1000 final in Cincinnati. So overall, the world no. 10 is in top form and could give the sixth seed a run for her money.

Gauff v Muchova Prediction and Tip

Both players are in top form, but Gauff won the Cincinnati final in straight sets and that was not long ago. So the American will hold the psychological edge going into this contest. Expect her to keep the streak going and advance to another major final.
