Jasmine Paolini v Emma Navarro Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before.

This will be the first match between the 27 year old Italian, and the American, who is five years her junior.

Cincinnati Quarter-Finalist Paolini

Paolini’s defeat in the final on the home soil of Palermo in June, means that she is still waiting to add to the one WTA senior title, which she claimed two years ago in Slovenia.

That came a few months after winning her only doubles title to date, which came on the clay of Hamburg.

Arguably her best result of the season so far also came on American soil, in Cincinnati, where she reached the quarter-finals of a WTA 1000 event for the first time in her career, beating Elena Rybakina.

She was finally beaten by Coco Gauff, who has just become US Open champion.

That might have persuaded the Italian that she could go deep in New York.

Instead her campaign was ended at the first round stage by Jelena Ostapenko, losing to the Latvian world number 16 in three sets.

Navarro Bounces Back from US Open Disappointment

The winner of the girls’ doubles at the French Open in 2019, and the runner-up in the singles that same year, Navarro has reached four ITF finals this year, winning two of them, both on clay.

And, in July, she reached her first Challenger final, also on clay, although she had to settle for the runners-up cheque as she was beaten in Bastad in three sets by the Serb Olga Danilovic.

Her best result of the year, though, came on the grass of Bad Homburg, where she reached the semi-final of a WTA senior event for the first time in her career, beating both Nadia Podoroska and Alize Cornet along the way.

She qualified for Cincinnati, but then lost her next three matches, which included the disappointment of going out of her home Grand Slam in the first round, going down in three sets to the Pole, Magdalene Frech.

However, she bounced back by qualifying for San Diego in some style, defeating both Yasmine Kabbaj of Morocco, and Iryna Shyanovich, the world number 159, in straight sets with a minimum of difficult.

Paolini v Navarro Prediction and Tip

The Italian has the greater pedigree on the senior tour, and will begin as favourite, although, if Navarro can show the same form as she did in qualifying, she should not be underestimated.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Paolini to win: 10/13 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 21/20 (with bet365)
