Magdalena Frech v Camila Osorio Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before.

This will be the first match, between the Pole, who is 25 years old, and the Colombian, four years her junior.

Frech at Career High Ranking

The Polish number three, behind Iga Swiatek and Magda Linette, Frech has won one title at the Challenger level, and that was also on American soil, two years ago in Concord.

However, it has taken her until now to reach her highest singles ranking, helped by her performance at the US Open where she reached the second round for the first time in her career, after defeating the US competitor, Emma Navarro.

The beaten finalist at the French Open, Karolina Muchova, ended her run with a straight sets defeat.

Her now found status though, did not spare her from the rigours of qualifying in San Diego, although her first opponent, Yulia Starodubtseva of Ukraine, offered little resistance.

However, the American Hailey Baptists proved much harder to beat in her next match, and it took three tough sets before Frech could finally claim her place in the main draw.

Osorio Has Proved Her Versatility

Although South American players normally have the reputation of preferring clay, Osorio somewhat belies that.

Two out of her three finals have been on hard courts, although her only success was on clay on home soil in Colombia two years ago.

And her best result in a Grand Slam came not at the French Open, which many might have expected, but on the grass of Wimbledon, where she reached the third round in 2021.

Any hopes that she might have had of improving on that at the US Open, were dealt a major blow when she was drawn against Ons Jabeur in the first round. The Tunisian promptly beat her in straight sets, although Osorio did at least make her work for the win.

Like Frech, she had to qualify in San Diego, and, like her, she breezed through her first match, conceding just three games to the American Jamie Loeb.

However, she then found herself a set down to another American, Kayla Day, the world number 97, before rallying to win the next two.

Frech v Osorio Prediction and Tip

This could be a closely fought match, between two players who came through the qualifying competition in San Diego.

Osorio, as the higher ranked player, will start as favourite, especially as she has shown that she is up to the challenge of playing on hard courts.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Osorio to win: 4/6 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 21/20 (with bet365)
