Anna Kalinskaya v Ashlyn Krueger Head to Head

Kalinskaya and Krueger have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Kalinskaya Quells the Dart Challenge

In a match that started off with neither player able to make a dash, Kalinskaya was able to pull away from her opponent in straight sets and reach the quarterfinal.

After having eased to a straight-set win over Jule Niemeier in the first round, Kalinskaya needed an hour and 44 minutes to carve out a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over Dart in the second.

Kalinskaya was up a break in the very first game of the encounter only to drop her serve twice in a row to fall 2-5 behind in the opening set. She broke back to prevent Dart from serving out the set and then again to take a 6-5 lead.

It was Dart’s chance to break back and level things out at 6-6 and while Dart looked like she held the edge for most part of the tie-breaker, Kalinskaya won the last three points to grab the set.

The second set was a lot easier for Kalinskaya as she broke Dart thrice to wrap it up and set up a quarterfinal outing where she starts off a 1/2 favourite with bet365.

Krueger Pushes Ponchet Out

Facing the 140th-ranked Jessika Ponchet in her second round match, Krueger did not waste too much time in her victory. Krueger was on court for an hour and 25 minutes to dispel her French opponent’s challenge and win 6-4, 6-1.

In a match in which Krueger faced just one break-point – and was broken in it – she overcame her opponent’s serve four times from the 13 chances she got. This was after Krueger fell 1-3 down in the first set, only to respond by winning 11 of the next 13 games.

This follows a similar previous round win over Kateryna Baindl where Krueger had dropped five games too.

Krueger’s toughest test will come now at the hands of a player who not so recently was pushing to make it into the top 50 before an injury layoff pulled her down. Can the teenager find a way to surprise her opponent despite starting out a 8/5 underdog at bet365.
