Anastasia Potapova v Sofia Kenin Head to Head

Potapova and Kenin have never faced off before this.

Potapova Stuns Jabeur

Returning after having suffered a bout of flu, Jabeur was back in action here and following a first round bye, she had gone into her second round match against a struggling Potapova as a 9/20 favourite with bet365.

And while Potapova didn’t have her best game on serve, she managed to hold on to her serve one more time than her more-fancied opponent to make it to the last eight stage.

Having overcome Alycia Parks in the first round in a fighting three-setter, Potapova traded four breaks of serves with Jabeur in the first seven games of the match. At 5-4, however, she managed to break Jabeur to love to grab the first set almost against the run of play.

In the second, Jabeur had a chance to serve out the set at 5-4 but lost her serve and then again at 6-5, only to lose the serve again. In the tie-breaker that followed, Potapova took full control by going 4-0 up and then converting her first match-point at 6-4.

Can she now end Kenin’s journey in the tournament as she starts off an 8/11 favourite with bet365?

Kenin Overcomes Slow Start against Volynets

Kenin had shocked Veronika Kudermetova in the first round but struggled to go past the fellow American and 117th-ranked Katie Volynets in the second.

In a match that lasted an hour and 42 minutes, Kenin shrugged off a horrible first set showing and from a break down on two occasions in the second set, she went on to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.

On the one hand, Kenin struggled with her serve as she dropped it a whopping seven times from the eight break-points she had. But the other aspect of her game that was much to admire was her tenacity as she held on and slowly clawed back in the final set where she came back from being a break down again to win five games in a row.

Kenin will hope she can do a lot better in the quarterfinals, especially on her second serve which saw her win just five points in the entire second round match. She starts off 1/1 (with bet365) to win this.

Potapova v Kenin Prediction and Tip

Potapova will be our pick after the manner in which she has gone about her business in this competition so far. Kenin can be expected to put up a fight but if her serving is anything to go by this could well turn out to be a straight-set win for Potapova.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Potapova to win: 8/11 (with bet365)
  • High Risk Tip: Potapova to win in straight sets: 2/1 (with bet365)
