Beatriz Haddad Maia v Danielle Collins Head to Head

Haddad Maia’s Ranking’s Taken a Tumble

While Haddad Maia will improve to 18th on the WTA charts by the time the new rankings are updated, jumping up two spots after her performance at the San Diego Open, she will be eyeing a return to her career-best spot of 10th in the world.

It was only in June earlier this year that Haddad Maia had hit that career-best ranking but a poor set of performances on grass pulled her down. She had, after all, won a couple of WTA tournaments on grass last season and was unable to get close to repeating that this year.

Returning to the hardcourt surfaces in North America, Haddad Maia has not had a great time there either and her quarterfinal appearance in San Diego was her first instance of winning back to back matches since Wimbledon.

Fitness has been a concern for Haddad Maia though, having retired from her fourth round match at Wimbledon.

The question is if she can turn things around in a tournament where she was sent packing by Katerina Siniakova last year. Haddad Maia is 11/10 with bet365 to win this.

Collins Returning from San Diego Semis

Having finally got a few court-miles under her belt, Collins looks like she is slowly returning to full rhythm. And that has been on display over the four hardcourt tournaments she has played since getting knocked out in the first round of the Washington Open by Liudmilla Samsonova.

Needing to qualify to make it to the Canadian Open, Collins made the quarterfinals there while winning a round apiece at the Cincinnati Open and US Open.

At the San Diego, Collins was at her best though as she ran past Louisa Chirico, Jelena Ostapenko and Caroline Garcia to make it to the semifinal. While she lost to Barbora Krejcikova at that stage, Collins will hope she can continue showing that same form which had shown signs of being at her best.

She starts off a favourite here too, with bet365 offering 8/11 for her win.
