Kalinskaya Getting Back Into Form

Anna  Kalinskaya was having a really solid year until she injured herself badly during a match at the Rome Open. She missed months of action after that only returning recently, and it looked fine. Nobody really expected her to continue where she left off considering the length of absence, but she’s been playing really solid tennis.

Last week in Osaka, Kalinskaya won two matches beating Jule Niemeier 6-4 6-4 and Harriet Dart 7-6(5) 6-2 before getting beaten by Ashlyn Krueger. The American won the event, so that loss doesn’t look too bad. Kalinskaya is a fine player, one who likes to play attacking tennis though she can struggle with consistency.

Hard courts are her best surface having a 133-67 record on the surface. She’s also won a few matches since returning, so I don’t think confidence will be a huge issue, but she’ll need to play well to beat Zhu, especially on Chinese soil.

I see this as a very close match but she can win if she produces close to her best.

Zhu Drops Osaka Final

Lin Zhu played a fantastic week of tennis in Osaka last week making her way to the final of the event, but she was beaten by Ashlyn Krueger. The Chinese player opened the year well in Australia and never really looked back, consistently producing a really strong effort.

She’s 27-19 on the year with her hard court record being 23-14. Being back home on Chinese soil and playing a tennis event will be good for her though fatigue is a question mark. It’s not a short flight between Osaka and Guangzhou, and she certainly won’t have much time to adjust.

Her match will happen less than 48 hours after playing in the Osaka final, and having played five matches the week before will certainly impact her. Kalinskaya is a tough player as it is, so she might be in trouble.

If she does manage to recover well, then she can win, as she’ll have the native crowd backing her fiercely.

Kalinskaya v Zhu Prediction and Tip

I’m not sold on either player for different reasons, which is why I prefer to play the over. I don’t see Zhu bowing out easily, but I don’t see her winning easily either.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
