Bad Month From Baindl

Kateryna Baindl didn’t have the best finish in August and the start of September. It’s generally been a rather disappointing season for the Ukrainian, who is only 15-18 on the year. Her last good run came in Chicago, where she won a few matches, but it’s been quite disappointing since then. She’s on an active 3-match losing streak, including the one in Osaka last week.

She played Ashlyn Krueger, who would eventually win the event and lost easily 6-2 6-3. Baindl generally plays pretty okay on hard courts but didn’t find much success in recent years. She tends to struggle with this really powerful style of play, which is becoming very common on the Tour.

She doesn’t have the same power, so that leaves her quite vulnerable in a matchup of hitters. A hitter is waiting for her in the upcoming match and it’s not looking very good. She can win if she forces her opponents into many errors, but that’s not a give.

A good return could do wonders because Masarova still heavily depends on her serve.

Masarova Searching for Consistency

Rebeka Masarova made a step forward in her career this year, producing a really solid level multiple times. She had a good start in Australia but then saw her form turn more unpredictable in the coming months. It’s normal for a young player, and we’ve seen it at the US Open.

That was the last event she played, and she started by besting Maria Sakkari in the opening round. The Greek player has been in a funk for a very long time, but still, beating her will never be easy.

We’ll see whether Masarova brings that type of play to China, but the odds are in her favour. She faces a player whom she can overpower easily with her best play, though the serve will matter a lot.

If she serves at a really high level, then expect a rather comfortable match for her.

Baindl v Masarova Prediction and Tip

I’ll back Masarova simply because I think her power gives her a bigger chance to actually win the match. I don’t see Bainl winning unless Masarova just beats herself.
