Rebecca Marino has not played very strong tennis lately, securing only one victory in the last few events she played. The Canadian is an attacking player with a solid serve but can sail a lot of balls wide due to her rhythm being very fickle.
She had a really solid with over Nao Hibino in Osaka last week but failed to follow that up with another win. It’s been ages since she was able to win back-to-back matches, as it last happened in July during an ITF event in Granby.
The surface in China should suit her style of play rather well, but this matchup will mostly come down to who plays better from the baseline. She never faced Golubic before, and that’s going to be a minus for her.
The Swiss player is very tough to handle from the baseline, so she’ll need her best to get this one done.

Golubic Favoured To Win
Viktorija Golubic hasn’t had the type of year she can have, but she was still fair most of the time. The best surface for her this year was hard courts as 13 of her 23 wins have come on it.
That’s why she’s favoured against Marino, who has more power in her shots, but the Swiss player is far more consistent with her play. The problem for her is that her form goes up and down. If she’s in form, she’s a Top 50 player, but if she’s out of form then she’s not very good.
She’s been in from lately, winning an ITF event in Tokyo, though she didn’t follow that up in Osaka, losing early to Jessika Ponchet. There was some fatigue, so that loss can be explained, but she’s certainly looked far better than Marino lately.
She should win comfortably if she brings her play from Tokyo to this matchup.

I like Golubic in this spot because she’s all rested and has played better lately. I don’t think the power of Marino will cause her too much trouble.
