Magda Linette v Yulia Putintseva Head to Head

Between 2015 and 2023, there have been eight meetings between these two players including one in the Billie Jean King Cup earlier this year. Linette leads 5-3 on head to head.

At the WTA level, there have been three matches in hardcourt competitions and Linette has won them all.

Linette Edges Through against Masarova

Top seeded Linette did not have the most comfortable of outings but she managed to secure her semifinal berth with a hard-fought straight-set win over Rebeka Masarova.

In a match that went on for two hours and five minutes, Linette faced just two break-points and was broken only once but still found the going very tough. Eventually she won 7-5, 7-6 (6) but not before facing a few heart-stopping moments.

For instance, Masarova was a break up early in the match and led 5-4, 40-0 with three set-points in the bag. Linette saved them all, before breaking Masarova twice to claim the set.

Not to be outdone, Masarova held on to her serve throughout the second set and in the tie-breaker that followed, had a set-point too. Again, Linette didn’t bat much of an eyelid as she saved it and converted the first match-point she got.

A trend to be noticed in all three of Linette’s wins in this tournament so far has been the fight that has been shown by her opponent in at least one of the sets. We can expect the same to continue here even as she starts off a 4/6 favourite to win this semifinal according to bet365.

Putintseva Seeds Maria Off

Tatjana Maria put up a strong showing but in the end, Putintseva found a way to break her opponent’s challenge in a one-sided deciding set and clinch a place in the semifinal.

Putintseva was on court for two hours and 49 minutes before coming through 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-0, having frittered away two match-points in the second set.

That didn’t deter her too much as she went on a breaking rampage in the decider, and while she faced two break-points of her own in it, Putintseva was able to bagel her opponent there.

This follows an easy first round victory over Xiaodi You and a third set retirement from Clara Tauson in the second. Can she now take the same form forward against a player who is ranked 54 places ahead of her at the moment?

Putintseva is 13/10 (with bet365) to win this but we think it could get a lot closer than that.

Linette v Putintseva Prediction and Tip

There isn’t much to pick between these two players and in this match, more than any other, the player who does better on the day will emerge a victor. We do expect a longish, fighting match though.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
