Karen Khachanov v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players and Khachanov leads 3-1. This includes a match played earlier this year at the Australian Open where Khachanov had raced away to a straight-set victory.

Khachanov Eases Past Korda

Khachanov might not have started out as a favourite in his semifinal match against Sebastian Korda but that did not bother him too much as he made it past his American opponent to enter the final.

The world number 15, who was playing in only his second tournament since the French Open having suffered an injury, followed up his wins over Alex Bolt and Mackenzie McDonald with a 7-5, 6-4 win against Korda.

In a match that lasted an hour and 48 minutes, Khachanov drew first blood in both the sets in the form of breaks of serves. The first set saw Korda break right back but at 5-5, Khachanov was afforded three more opportunities to break and he did that before serving it out.

The second set turned out to be a one-sided one as Khachanov raced away to a 4-0 lead. While Korda pulled one break of serve back, Khachanov served out to love at 5-4 to clinch the win.

He will start out a 1/2 favourite with here with bet365.

Nishioka Stuns Karatsev

Aslan Karatsev had come into the semifinal with a win over Cameron Norrie and Andy Murray under his belt but even that kind of confidence did not help him too much against Nishioka.

The 46th-ranked player carved out a 6-4, 6-4 win over Karatsev to make it to his fifth career ATP finals. He has won two of his previous four including one last year at the Korea Open.

In a match lasting an hour and 54 minutes, Nishioka overcame a 0-2 deficit in both the sets to come back and break his opponent four times in total and complete the victory. Where Nishioka scored over Karatsev was the second serves winning 59% of those off his serve and 65% his opponent’s second serves.

Rather interestingly, Nishioka had lost the first set he had played in this tournament 6-0 to Terence Atmane but from that point onward he has won eight successive sets against Lloyd Harris, Jan-Lennard Struff and Karatsev.

Can he continue with that winning run despite starting a 6/4 underdog with bet365?

Khachanov v Nishioka Prediction and Tip

Khachanov was in stupendous form before his injury and while he was knocked out in the first round of the US Open on return, he has also shown now he’s back to full physical health and match fitness. Expect him to come away a winner here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Khachanov to win: 1/2 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Khachanov to win in straight sets: 13/10 (with bet365)
