Daniil Medvedev v Tommy Paul Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2021 French Open and surprise, surprise, Medvedev actually won this in four sets.

Medvedev 33-6 on Hardcourts after US Open Final Showing

Medvedev failed to add to his Grand Slam title count when he lost in the final of the US Open earlier this month to Novak Djokovic but he had done enough by then to suggest that he continues to be a force in hardcourt tennis.

While his performances at the Canadian Masters and Cincinnati Masters before that had left much to desire, Medvedev came storming back at the US Open with one of his best performances.

He overcame the in-form Alex de Minaur in the fourth round, routed fellow Russian and close friend Andrey Rublev and then dished out the shock of the tournament by overcoming Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal.

In fact, that win over Alcaraz wasn’t really down to his opponent’s struggles but the level of his own game that he had brought to the table. This was after Medvedev had gone into that encounter at 3/1 odds with bet365.

Coming up against a player ranked 13th in the world in the very first round here is stuff that ATP Finals is probably made of, but what better than to start off on a high and grow into the tournament as one of the favourites as it progresses. Medvedev is 1/4 to win this (at bet365).

Paul Slightly Scratchy Recently

While this has been a season to remember for Paul thanks to his rise from being a 35th-ranked player at one point this year to his current career-best of 13th, his more recent form has been slightly down.

Make no mistake, Paul is coming off a fourth round appearance at the US Open but since then he has lost four matches in a row.

Ben Shelton had sent him packing in Flushing Meadows before Paul lost both his Davis Cup matches and his singles match at the Laver Cup to Casper Ruud.

One might argue that these losses do not count for a lot given these are team events but it also gives an insight to the mindset and physical form and it does look like Paul might have lost a tiny bit of steam towards the end of the season.

And against a player of Medvedev’s calibre that might not be a great way to go into the encounter. No surprises then that he starts off a 3/1 underdog here (with bet365).

Medvedev v Paul Prediction and Tip

Medvedev can be expected to win this and if he can get into his match rhythm quickly enough it won’t be a surprise if he does that in straight sets despite facing a player ranked this high, this early.
