Iga Swiatek v Magda Linette Head to Head

Rather surprisingly, Swiatek and Linette have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Swiatek v Linette Match Winning Odds*

Swiatek Eases Past Gracheva

Swiatek hasn’t had the best of preparations coming into this tournament and even in her first round win over Sara Sorribes Tormo she had looked slightly below her best. But come the second round encounter against Varvara Gracheva, Swiatek eased to a straight-set win and sealed her spot in the round of 16.

Two quick breaks of serves took Swiatek to 4-1 in the first set before Gracheva earned one back in the sixth game.

That was the last time Gracheva would find a way to break her opponent – in fact Swiatek wouldn’t concede a single break-point following this while getting past her serve three more times in the second set to win 6-4, 6-1.

Swiatek should not face too much trouble against Linette either and she would hope to use this encounter to sharpen her claws come the business end of the competition.

Linette Benefits from Brady Retirement

It took Linette only 19 minutes of court time to seal her win and reach the third round of the competition. This was a after Jennifer Brady retired from their second round encounter after having fallen 1-3 down to Linette.

Linette had earlier made the second round with a fighting, comeback from behind win over Victoria Azarenka despite having started out a 7/3 underdog in her opener.

That had followed a superlative performance off the Polish player’s racquet in Guangzhou where she won four matches in a row to reach the final of that tournament. A 6-0, 6-2 drubbing in the title-decider there at the hands of Xiyu Wang would have been a bitter pill to swallow but it’s got Linette closer to her career-best ranking of 19th.

Against Swiatek she will be a second favourite by some distance though and while the world number two hasn’t been at her best, it’s difficult to see Linette put up that much of a challenge.

Swiatek v Linette Prediction and Tip

Swiatek to claim this and do it in a hurry. Straight-set win in a match that doesn’t go too long either.
