Serena Williams v Tamara Zidansek Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the 38-year-old Serena and Zidansek, the 70th-ranked, 22-year-old Slovenian.

Williams Marches into Round Two

Serena means business and that 24th Grand Slam title is the only thing on her mind by the looks of things. After winning five matches in a row to lift the Auckland Open title – her first since 2017 – Serena wasted no time in getting rid of her first round opponent at the Australian Open.

She defeated Anastasia Potapova 6-0, 6-3 to march into the second round.

Williams blasted nine aces to scoot off to a 6-0, 1-0 lead in the match before her Russian opponent even had a chance to get going. Potapova did get a break of serve at that point as Williams double-faulted twice but the American was back into the match with a break back and the match lasted just 58 minute before she wrapped it up in straight sets.

And having played an 18-year-old opponent in the first round, Williams will now face another youngster in the form of the 22-year-old Zidansek.

Clay Court Specialist Zidansek Has A Task on Hands

While she won her opener, Zidansek would know beating a 179th-ranked wild-card entrant, as was the case with Na-Lae Han, is a different kettle of fish from facing a 23-time Grand Slam winner who is gunning for that elusive 24th.

Even more so because Zidansek herself isn’t much of a hard court player. This year itself, Zidansek won her opening round match at the Auckland Open before she was sent packing by the eventual finalist Jessica Pegula in the second. And then she lost her opener at Hobart, going down to Elena Rybakina in straight sets.

Even in 2019, Zidansek’s win-loss record on hard court surfaces was a shocking 6-13 and three of those six wins came in qualifying rounds of those competitions. An early season semifinal at the Hua Hin Open had raised hopes but her form fell away quickly on hard court surfaces.

Serena Williams v Tamara Zidansek Predictions & Tips

Williams dropped a mere three games in her first round and it looks highly likely she won’t be dropping too many more than that in her second round match as well. Expect less than 17 games in this match.

Tip: Under 16.5 games in the match: 1/1 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
