Hubert Hurkacz v Richard Gasquet Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the World No. 35 Hurkacz and the World No. 49 Gasquet.

Hurkacz Looking To Regain Start of the Season Form

After a brilliant start to 2021, Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz seems to have lost momentum and would be hoping to regain form as he begins his Dubai challenge on Tuesday.

The 13th seed, who received a first round bye, comes into the tournament with a 7-4 record this year, but has lost four of his last five matches.

Beginning the season in style, the big-hitting Pole defeated Daniel Galan (Round of 16), Roberto Quiroz (quarterfinal), Chris Harrison (semifinal) and Sebastian Korda (final), all in straight sets, to clinch the Delray Beach Open title.

It was a second ATP title for the 6’5” right-hander, who won his first in 2019 by beating Benoit Paire in the final of the Winston Salem Open.

Following his success at Delray Beach, the 24-year-old reached the quarterfinal of Adelaide International, where he lost to Italy’s Stefano Travaglia. Since then, Hurkacz has struggled for form and consistency, losing to Mikael Ymer in a five-set first-round contest at the Australian Open and to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the opening round in Montpellier.

He ended the three-match losing streak in Rotterdam, defeating Adrian Mannarino in straight sets in the first round, before going down fighting against Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Last season, Hurkacz had reached the semifinals in Auckland and the quarterfinals in Cologne as he finished with a 15-13 record.

Gasquet Overwhelms Cecchinato

Meeting Hurkacz in the second round will be Richard Gasquet, who needed just an hour and 11 minutes to defeat Italy’s Marco Cecchinato in straight sets in the first round on Monday.

Serving out nine aces, Gasquet won 93 percent of his first serve points, converted three of eight break points and saved the only one he faced in the match to score a 6-4, 6-2 victory against the Italian, extending his losing streak to five matches.

The win improved the World No. 49 to 2-1 this year, after a back issue prevented him from competing in most of the tournaments in the first three months.

A three-time Grand Slam semifinalist, Gasquet made a first-round exit from his season opener at the Murray River Open in February, after he was handed a straight sets defeat by America’s Mackenzie McDonald.

Since then, injury kept the 34-year-old away from the tour, until last week, when the 31-time ATP finalist made a comeback in Marseille, but after an easy first round win over Slovenian qualifier Blaz Rola he had to withdraw yet again before his Round-of-16 match against Russia’s Andrey Rublev.

A 15-time champion on the tour, Gasquet won his last title in ‘S-Hertogenbosch in 2018. He was 10-10 last year, reaching the semifinals in Sofia and quarterfinals in Montpellier and Dubai.

After the dominating performance on Monday, Gasquet will hope to keep the form going on Tuesday.

Hurkacz v Gasquet Prediction and Tip

Hurkacz may not have been winning too often of late, but he ended his three-match losing streak in Rotterdam and then made Tsitsipas work hard for his win in the next round. Also Gasquet hasn’t played much this year, so expect Hurkacz to have a slight edge going into this contest. But the experienced Gasquet seemed in control in the first round and if he is back to full fitness, he will give the Pole a tough time.

Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
