Viktorija Golubic v Anna Kalinskaya Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 28-year old Swiss, and the Russian, who is 6 years her junior.

Golubic, Beaten Finalist in Lyon

Golubic is in excellent form in 2021, having won an ITF event in Grenoble already and then been a surprise finalist in Lyon, eventually losing to the Danish teenager Clara Tauson.

However, despite that, her world ranking was still not good enough to earn automatic entry into the main draw here, and she had to qualify first, which she did with two straight set victories.

Having got that far though, she beat the number six seed, Anna Blinkova of Russia, again in straight sets, to set up a meeting with the American, Lauren Davis, the world 79, on Thursday.

She began well, breaking Davis in her opening service game, and then, after the pair swapped breaks, breaking the American again to wrap up the first set in 46 minutes.

The second set was even more straightforward for Golubic. She broke Davis in the fourth game, broke her once more, and then served out to love.

She has yet to drop a set since arriving in Mexico.

Kalinskaya, Finding Form in Monterrey

Unlike Golubic, Kalinskaya did not arrive in Monterrey in good form. after a string of early exits from tournaments and failing to qualify for the Australian Open.

She, too, had to negotiate two rounds of the qualifying competition, but she managed to win both matches in straight sets, and earned herself an opening match with the number two seed, Nadia Podoroska.

And she shocked last year’s French Open semi-finalist with a straight sets win, out-performing the Argentine both when it came to service and the return.

On Thursday she had Serbian opposition in the shape of Nina Stojanovic, the world 95, and again she won in straight sets.

In the first set the pair swapped service breaks, but then Kalinskaya broke once more. The Serb levelled  but, serving to stay in the set, she faltered, the Russian pounced, and the first set was hers.

The second set initially went with serve, although both women had break opportunities. However, it was Kalinskaya who finally made the breakthrough and she controlled the match from there.

Like Golubic, she has yet to drop a serve this week.

Golubic v Kalinskaya Prediction and Tip

Based on the form that the Swiss woman has shown in 2021 so far, she will begin as the clear favourite to win this match, and Kalinskaya will do well to win a set off her.

Tip: Golubic to win in straight sets: 1/1 (bet365)
