Tereza Martincova of the Czech Republic got off to a flying start in Nottingham as she breezed past America’s Caroline Dolehide in the Round of 32 on Tuesday.

The 17th seed, who received a first-round bye, needed just 63 minutes to see off the 22-year-old American 6-2, 6-3.

Martincova didn’t face a single break point in the match, while breaking her opponent’s serve three times from seven breaking opportunities. She also had a solid service game, wining 78.3% points on her serve.

A four-time champion on the ITF Circuit, Martincova has had a good year so far in terms of her performances in big tournaments.

The 26-year-old right-hander, who had lost all her previous four matches at Grand Slams, finally got her first win in majors when she defeated Ivana Jorovic in the first round at Roland Garros. She was, however, beaten in the second round by Jessica Pegula.

The Czech also reached the third round of a WTA 1000 tournament for the first time, when she beat Kristyna Pliskova and Kiki Bertens en route the Round of 16 in Dubai. She had come through the qualifying rounds, and had won four in a row, before falling to Cori Gauff in the Round of 16.

Garcia Perez Wins Another Gruelling Match

Spain’s Georgina Garcia Perez battled past 18th seed Christina McHale of the U.S. in an epic second-round contest at the Nottingham Open that lasted three hours and 16 minutes.

Having lost the first set in the tie-break, Garcia Perez forged her way back into the contest to move into the third round with a 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 7-6 victory.

The Spaniard, ranked 184th in the world, had qualified for the main draw with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Katie Volynets on Saturday. She also had to make a comeback in the Round of 64 against Britain’s Francesca Jones on Monday. Garcia Perez rebounded to win the two-hour-and-31-minute first-round match 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The 29-year-old, who had played just one main draw match this year prior to the Nottingham Open, is 2-1 on the tour following Tuesday’s win. Overall, the 6’1″ right-hander is 7-4 across levels.

Against McHale, Garcia Perez served eight aces, saved five of six break points and converted three of 11. She also won 67.5% points on her serve, which included 78% points won on the first serve.

Garcia Perez has played two back-to-back draining contests and those may have an effect on her in the next match. Martincova, meanwhile, looked in terrific form on Tuesday and she will be expected to continue her march forward in the tournament.
