Yastremska, Looking for Resurgence

Dayana Yastremska started her 2021 season only in July, following the provisional ban for doping which was lifted at the end of June.

Having been out of the action for more than six months, it is quite reasonable to expect a slow, steady start from the Ukrainian. That said, the former World No. 21 and four-time WTA singles finalist had a good run in her opening campaign of the Hamburg Open.

In that clay tournament, Yastremska made it as far as the semifinal, upsetting Sara Errani on the way. She ultimately fell to Elena-Gabriela Ruse.

Most recently, she played in the Tokyo Olympics where she lost her opening-round bout to Leylah Fernandez. Post that, she featured in the WTA San Jose last week where, once again, she lost her opening match – this time to Claire Liu.

Over the course of her career, Yastremska has shown a lot of promise, including registering wins over several top players like Victoria Azarenka, Angelique Kerber, and Karolina Pliskova.

Stephens, Showing Signs of a Comeback

Having struggled a lot with her form over the last couple of seasons, former World No. 3 Sloane Stephens is starting to play tennis like she used to.

The 2017 US Open winner has had a rather disappointing season so far – owing to which she has fallen down to the #67 place in the rankings. That said, she has started to deliver positive results in the last few tournaments, essentially setting the stage for a big comeback in the US Open Series.

Stephens reached the semifinal in WTA Parma and the fourth-round in the French Open, defeating the likes of Karolina Pliskova and Daria Kasatkina. In Wimbledon, she made it to the third round after upsetting Petra Kvitova in the opener.

Her last tournament was the Silicon Valley Classic where she lost to the eventual finalist Danielle Collins in round two.

Yastremska v Stephens Prediction and Tip

Yastremska is rusty but she has the goods to deliver a solid win here. As for Stephens, she isn’t too far behind herself with an impressive repertoire of skills that took her to the top 10 and two Grand Slam finals.

Expect a good game of tennis where Stephens can possibly come out on the top.
