Benoît Paire v Mackenzie McDonald Head to Head
The pair have played each other twice before, and their head-to-head records stands at one win apiece. Paire won on the clay of Lyon in 2019, but, last week in Washington, it was McDonald who came from behind to win in three sets.

Paire has now had time to get over missing out on the Olympics because of behavioural issues.
In truth, he has had other matters to occupy him, as he struggles to find his best form.
Between March and June, he failed to win a single match, and, although there have been signs of recovery since, with quarter-final appearances in Hamburg and Gstaad, they were both clay court events.
Since switching to the American hard court swing, he was beaten in the second round in Atlanta, and, having been handed a first-round bye in Washington, then lost to McDonald.

Washington Finalist McDonald
Before even facing Paire, McDonald has his first senior ATP final to contest against Jannik Sinner in Washington.
He will start as the underdog against the Italian teenager, but the world number 107 can look back on an excellent week’s work in the American capital, which saw him claim the scalps of Nick Kyrgios, Paire, Ilya Ivashka, Denis Kudla, and Kei Nishikori, all higher ranked than him to make the final.
The 26-year old has been threatening to make that sort of breakthrough on the senior tour for several years now, and win or loss against Sinner, his performances should help push him closer to breaking into the top 100.
There must be a question though about how much he has got left in the tank after his exertions of the past week.

Paire is tipped to win this match, despite losing to this opponent last week. McDonald took a lot out of himself getting to the final in Washington, whilst Paire will be fresher, having spent more time on the practice court since their meeting.
