This will be the first meeting between the two ladies on the WTA Tour.

Badosa, Fresh Off a Quarterfinal Run in Tokyo

23-year-old Paula Badosa will be quite pleased with the season she has had so far on the WTA Tour.

She won her first singles title in the Serbia Open and later reached the semifinal in the Italian Open, WTA Lyon, and WTA Charleston, and the quarterfinal in the French Open. In these clay tournaments, the Spaniard dispatched the likes of Anastasija Sevastova, Belinda Bencic, Ashleigh Barty, and Marketa Vondrousova.

Badosa also made it to the fourth round in Wimbledon and later followed it with a similar run in the Tokyo Olympics. She could have very well gone the distance or at least, the semis in Tokyo but was forced to retire in her quarterfinal bout against Vondrousova.

Nonetheless, these results have propelled Badosa into the top 30 and her best singles ranking yet of World No. 29. She clearly has a bright future ahead of her and it may just be a matter of time before she cracks the top 10.

Golubic, Silver Medalist in Tokyo

If Badosa has made great strides on the tour in 2021, her Swiss adversary Viktorija Golubic is not too far behind either.

The 28-year-old has reached two singles finals on the tour – both hard-court tournaments in Monterrey and Lyon, losing respectively to Leylah Fernandez and Clara Tauson. Golubic also won the WTA 125K Series event in Saint-Malo and later in the year, she reached the quarterfinal in Eastbourne International (defeating Belinda Bencic and Samantha Stosur along the way).

Golubic followed it with a quarterfinal appearance in Wimbledon – her best Grand Slam run yet – before winning the doubles silver medal in Tokyo Olympics with Belinda Bencic. The duo lost to the pairing of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova.

These terrific results alone put her in the same league as Badosa and make her a worthy contender of reaching the penultimate rounds in the WTA Montreal 2021.

Badosa v Golubic Prediction and Tip

While Badosa will start as the odds-on favourite, this will be a close game that can very well go either way.

I’m predicting three sets in the match before the winner can be decided.
