Maria Sakkari v Marie Bouzkova Head to Head

Sakkari holds a 1-0 lead over Bouzkova, last defeating her in the 2019 Wimbledon.

Sakkari, Seeded 11 in Montreal

Maria Sakkari’s year so far has been quite impressive by her standards – on the back of her consistent results (to some extent), she has cracked the top 20 and is currently ranked World No. 19.

Her highlights include a semifinal appearance in the French Open (beating Sofia Kenin and Iga Swiatek along the way) and a similar run in the Miami Open, where she beat World No. 2 Naomi Osaka 6-0, 6-4.

At the start of the season, the 26-year-old also delivered these deep runs in WTA Abu Dhabi and the Grampians Trophy, thus proving that she is a player to be reckoned with, especially on the hard courts. Most recently, Sakkari represented Greece in the Tokyo Olympics where she lost in the third round to the eventual third-place finisher Elina Svitolina in three sets.

Sakkari may not have that many singles titles under her belt yet but over the course of her career, she has beaten many top 10 players like Garbine Muguruza, Karolina Pliskova, Serena Williams, and Petra Kvitova.

Bouzkova Looking for a Revival in Montreal

23-year-old Marie Bouzkova arrived in Montreal for the Canadian Open on the back of a four-match losing streak on the tour.

After losing in the quarterfinal in WTA Birmingham, she moved on to loser her opening round matches in Wimbledon, WTA Prague, and WTA San Jose last week respectively to Vera Zvonareva, Storm Sanders, and Ana Konjuh. That said, it is worth mentioning that Bouzkova won the doubles titles in Prague and Birmingham with Lucie Hradecka.

While Bouzkova has enjoyed a lot more success on the doubles circuit, her singles pedigree is impressive enough to make her a threat to Sakkari. Earlier in the year, she was the finalist in the Phillip Island Trophy (beating Bianca Andreescu in the semis) where she fell to Daria Kasatkina.

The Czech followed it with a semifinal run in WTA Guadalajara but failed to build on it later on.

Sakkari v Bouzkova Prediction and Tip

Sakkari will start this match as the favourite but it may not be an easy win for the Greek. Expect a solid fight from Bouzkova.
