Ons Jabeur v Daria Kasatkina Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Kasatkina leads 2-1 on head to head against Jabeur. Their first two matches came in 2016 and 2018, with the latter encounter coming in the final of WTA Moscow and both were won by Kasatkina.

More recently, on the grass of Birmingham, they faced off in the final yet again and Jabeur won that one.

Jabeur Slams Past Burel

There was never too much doubt about Jabeur starting out as a favourite against Clara Burel in her opening round encounter and the manner in which the Tunisian player routed her opponent proved her good quality yet again.

Jabeur needed less than an hour to register a 6-1, 6-3 win over Burel, in a match where she was barely tested.

In fact it took Burel till the fifth game of the set to even get a game-point, and it was only after she had lost the first set and was down 0-4 in the second that she finally managed to break Jabeur’s serve.

It was a case of too little, too late by then as the Tunisian came through easily.

The world number 22 had only recently won her maiden WTA title and will look to add another scalp to her kitty when she faces Kasatkina here.

In-Form Kasatkina Takes Down Martic

Once ranked 10th in the world, Kasatkina had fallen in the rankings but has now shown a gradual rise again to reach 27th. And that can be put down to a string of consistent results, which include two title victories and two other final appearances.

In hard court tournaments, both indoors and outdoors, Kasatkina has won 19 of the 24 matches she has played this year – a record worth looking at with envy.

Which is why a second round match against another in-form player sounds almost cruel – it should have probably been more a quarterfinal or a semifinal encounter – but that’s what the vagaries of a draw can do.

Kasatkina comes into this match with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Petra Martic.

Jabeur v Kasatkina Prediction and Tip
