Bublik heads to Cincinnati with a 27-21 win-loss record. He had a bright start to the season, reaching two finals and two Masters 1000 quarterfinals but has lost a bit of that early season momentum.
A semifinalist in Newport recently, he is 1-4 in his last five matches, a stat he would be looking to improve on in Cincinnati.
Since losing the Newport semifinal to Kevin Anderson, the World No. 38 fell to Daniil Medvedev in the opening round in Tokyo and to Kei Nishikori in the Round of 32 in Washington. He ended the three-match losing streak with a win over Daniel Evans in the first round in Toronto last week, but fell to Medvedev again in the second round. It was his fourth career defeat to the Russian but he took a set off the World No. 2 for the first time in his career.
Yet to win an ATP title, Bublik is a four-time finalist, with two of those coming this year. He was unlucky in Antalya, having to withdraw from the final against Alex de Minaur, and fell to another Aussie Alexei Popyrin in the final in Singapore.
Among his other accomplishments this year were two last eight finishes in Miami and Madrid – a massive achievement, considering that he had won a first round match at a Masters 1000 event only once before.
He will be looking to get a first win in Cincinnati on Tuesday, having made a first-round exit on debut last year.

Giron Qualifies for the Main Draw
He missed out on a main draw spot in Toronto last week after losing in the qualifiers to Canadian Brayden Schnur, but made sure it didn’t happen to him for a second consecutive week, winning the qualifying rounds and making it to the main draw in Cincinnati .
Giron beat compatriot J.J. Wolf in the first qualifying round on Saturday and then beat Germany’s Dominik Koepfer 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 in the second qualifying round on Sunday. The best part of both those wins was that he didn’t lose serve in either of those matches. Against Wolf he didn’t even face a break point, while saving four against Koepfer.
The 28-year-old American, ranked 66th in the world, is 11-13 this year, with his best performances coming in Halle, where he reached the quarterfinals and at Roland Garros, where he won the first two rounds.
Since the last eight finish at Halle, Giron featured at the Wimbledon, Tokyo Olympics and the Washington Open, winning the first round in each of the tournaments but bowing out in the second.

Bublik will be the favourite to advance from this contest. He has superior record and despite losing to Medvedev n Toronto looked in decent touch, stretching the top seed to the hilt.
