Iga Swiatek v Ons Jabeur Head to Head

There have been two previous matches between these two players and both, Swaitek and Jabeur have won one apiece.

Swiatek defeated Jabeur at the 2019 Washington Open but lost to her at Wimbledon earlier this year which was the last WTA match she had played as well.

Swiatek Did Not Have a Happy Olympics

An ascent to number seven in the world after having won French Open last year and showing exemplary this year in clinching two WTA titles, Swiatek would have been slightly disappointed with her previous two performances coming into this tournament.

She was first sent out packing from the fourth round at Wimbledon, a match she lost to Jabeur after winning the first set.

And that was followed by a second round upset at the hands of Paula Badosa at the Tokyo Olympics where she fell in straight sets.

Swiatek now returns to the venue where she has only played once before and that campaign came in 2019 where she had fallen in the second round.

Can she now extract revenge from Jabeur having won 11 and lost four matches on hard court surfaces earlier this season.

Jabeur Made to Sweat by Kontaveit

Having gone into her first round match here as 1/2 favourite to win it, Jabeur was made to sweat by Anett Kontaveit before she prevailed in three sets and moved into round two.

In a gruelling battle which lasted two hours and 15 minutes, Jabeur defeated Kontaveit 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 to edge into the second round.

The match saw a whopping 31 break-point opportunities for both players with Jabeur’s seven breaks of serves outlasting her opponent’s five. It was in the crucial 11th game of the final set that Jabeur made another break and then served out for the match to seal her place against Swiatek.

Earlier this month, Jabeur had also strived past Daria Kasatkina and Bianca Andreescu to make it to the quarterfinals where she fell to Pegula.

Can she make it two in two against Swiatek now?

This has the makings of a tough battle but we believe Swiatek might be able to overcome her previous issues against Jabeur and edge her out in three.
