Daniil Medvedev v Pablo Carreno Busta Head to Head

Medvedev leads 3-2 head-to-head, but Carreno Busta got the most latest win, and that too an all important one in the quarterfinal of the Tokyo Olympics on his way to claiming the bronze.

In their other meeting this year, Medvedev beat the Spaniard in the semifinal in Mallorca.

Medvedev Storms Into the Last Eight

2019 Cincinnati champion Daniil Medvedev stormed into the quarterfinals of this year’s event with a straight sets win over Grigor Dimitrov on Thursday.

The top seed needed just an hour and 30 minutes to beat the Bulgarian 6-3, 6-3. Broken once in the first set, Medvedev got two breaks in each set, converting four of 10 break points in the match.

On Wednesday, the Russian had begun his campaign with a 6-2, 6-2 second-round win over American Mackenzie McDonald.

Thursday’s win improved the World No. 2 to 39-9 this season and extended his win streak to seven matches, which includes five consecutive wins that led him to the Toronto Masters title last week. The last player to beat Medvedev faces him in the quarterfinal on Friday.

Medvedev, who also won titles in Mallorca and Marseille this year, had beaten David Goffin for the Cincinnati title in 2019, but couldn’t go past the quarterfinals last year after being defeated by Roberto Bautista Agut.

Carreno Busta Year Continues to Grow

It’s been a solid year for the Olympic bronze medallist and he just keeps getting better with every tournament. On Thursday, the World No. 12 notched his 30th tour-level win of the season to reach another quarterfinal.

The 30-year-old, who has already added to his previous four titles with triumphs in Marbella and Hamburg this year, has never gone past the last eight in Cincinnati, having reached that stage just once, in 2018.

The seventh seed Carreno Busta, who knocked out Domink Koepfer 6-4, 6-2 in the second round, was given a tough fight by Wimbledon semifinalist Hubert Hurkacz on Thursday, before he edged out the Pole 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-3) in two hours and 13 minutes. Carreno Busta had just seven aces against Hurkacz’s 14, but he won 82% first-serve points and 75% second serve points in the contest.

The Spaniard had a total of 12 break points in the match, but he could capitalise on just one of them. Hurkacz too had five opportunities to break serve, but Carreno Busta saved four of them.

Medvedev v Carreno Busta Prediction and Tip

Coming in with a psychological advantage, Carreno Busta will hope to get another win over the Russian. Medvedev, meanwhile, will be eager to get his revenge and move into the semifinals. Expect a cracking three-setter.
