Medvedev Gets His Olympic Revenge

Stunned in Tokyo by the feisty Pablo Carreno Busta, Medvedev got a quick revenge against the Olympic bronze medallist, breezing past the Spaniard in straight sets for a place in a second straight Masters 1000 semifinal.

Ruthless from start to finish, Medvedev didn’t face a break point in the entire match as he needed just 55 minutes to dispatch the Spaniard 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinal on Friday.

Serving nine aces, the top seed won 92% first-serve points and 82% total points on his serve. He also dominated Carreno Busta’s serves, winning 54% return points and breaking the seventh seed five times in the match.

The 2019 Cincinnati champion is now two wins away from a fifth Masters 1000 title, having claimed his fourth last week in Toronto by beating Reilly Opelka in the final.

The 25-year-old has been extremely dominant in Ohio this week, having dropped just 12 games en route to to semifinal. He began the tournament with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mackenzie McDonald in the second round and then cruised past Grigor Dimitrov 6-3, 6-3 in the third round.

Rublev Holds Off Paire

The World No. 7 reached a third Masters 1000 semifinal of the season with a tough three-set win over Benoit Paire on Friday.

Rublev, who lost the Miami Open semifinal to Hubert Hurkacz and the Monte Carlo final to Stefanos Tsitsipas, will be aiming to reach a second career Masters 1000 final on Saturday.

The Rotterdam Open champion was made to work hard for his victory by Paire, who took him to the deciding set before going down 2-6, 6-3, 3-6 in an hour and 40 minutes.

Rublev served 13 aces, won 84% points on the back of his first serve and broke the Frenchman thrice from nine breaking opportunities. Rublev was broken just once in the match as he saved the other break points that he faced.

The 23-year-old, who improved to 40-13 this season, has had to endure some tough matches on his way to a maiden semifinal in Cincy. He had to rally from a set down to beat Marin Cilic 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 in the second round and then needed two tiebreaks to see off a determined Gael Monfils in the third round.

Medvedev v Rublev Prediction and Tip

While Medvedev has been dominant throughout the week, Rublev has had to fight for his three wins. Also, the World No. 2 has dominated the rivalry, having never dropped a set against the younger pro. So expect Medvedev to continue his dominance over Rublev with another straight sets win.
