Linette Eliminates Qualifier Bektas

Poland’s Magda Linette ended her three-match losing streak with a straight sets win over America’s Emina Bektas in the first round on Monday.

Linette, who couldn’t convert two set points on Bektas’ serve at 6-5 in the first, won a tightly contested tiebreak to take the set.

The Pole got the first break in the second, but the World No.  337 came back a couple of games later to send the set back on serve. Her joy was short lived though, as Linette responded with an immediate break and then served out the match for a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 win in an hour and 47 minutes.

The World No. 51, who lost in the quarterfinals in San Jose to Daria Kastakina, was knocked out in the first rounds of the Canadian and Cincinnati Opens by Nadia Podoroska and Simona Halep respectively.

A semifinalist in Strasbourg, Linette is 11-13 this year and has featured in the third rounds at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
