Marketa Vondrousova v Jana Fett Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Vondrousova, Batting Form Inconsistencies

World No. 35 Marketa Vondrousova is seeking her first singles title on the tour since winning the Ladies Open in Bienne more than four years ago.

Having started the year on a solid note with a semifinal appearance in the Yarra Valley Classic and a couple of fourth-round runs in the Australian Open and Miami Open, the Czech’s form took a dire hit as she struggled to deliver on clay and grass.

Barring a round of 16 stint in the French Open, Vondrousova was beaten in the early rounds in other WTA events on tour in this period. However, she did reach the Italian Open doubles final with Kristina Mladenovic, where the duo lost to the pairing of Sharon Fichman and Giuliana Olmos.

Then came the Olympics where she took the field by surprise and reached the final, upsetting the likes of Kiki Bertens, Naomi Osaka, and Elina Svitolina along the way. Vondrousova ultimately succumbed to Belinda Bencic but bring home the silver.

Her attempts to continue the same run in the US Open series were in vain – in the three tournaments she featured in, her best run came in the Chicago Open where she reached the quarters. The number five seed last played in New York where she was defeated by Daria Kasatkina in the second round.

Here in Luxembourg, Vondrousova moved past Alison Van Uytvanck in the opener with 6-2, 6-3 to reach round two.

Fett Starts Strong

Not a lot of people may have heard of Jana Fett – and we can’t fault them for it – after all, the 24-year-old Croat has spent the better part of the last couple of seasons outside the top 200.

Here in Luxembourg, she started as a qualifier and moved past Angelina Gabueva and Anastasia Gasanova in straight sets to reach the main draw.

There, she defeated the Russian qualifier, Ekaterina Makarova 6-3, 6-3 to deliver her best performance on the WTA Tour 2021.

Having spent the year alternating between ITF and WTA events, Fett didn’t enjoy much success in either. Her key moments entail reaching the main draw in the Winners Open, Romania as a qualifier and a semifinal run in ITF Poitiers back in February. Needless to say, with this performance in Luxembourg, the current World No. 227 will hope to build on it and go further.

Vondrousova v Fett Prediction and Tip

Given Vondrousova’s overall form and impeccable left hand, she shouldn’t face any major difficulties in navigating this fixture seamlessly and reaching the quarters.
