Dan Evans v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head

Dan Evans and Jan-Lennard Struff have been involved in two career head-to-head outings, with the former British No.1 winning coming out tops in both matches. They last played each other in the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup Finals in Spain. Evans pipped the German in the closely contested tie.

Evans Eyes Winning Start to New Season

Evans’s last event, the Stockholm Open in November last year, saw him bow out in the quarter-finals after losing to burly American Frances Tiafoe in three sets.

The last season saw the former British No.1 fall some way short of realizing his true potential and he would be desperately hoping that the tennis gods are with him as he eyes a winning start to the new year.

Carrying the hopes of his home supporters alongside current British No.1 Cameron Norrie, Evans will be up against imposing German Jan-Lennard Struff in a group-stage encounter at the ATP Cup on Sunday.

However, what would give him a burst of confidence going into the clash is the 2-0 lead that he holds over the big-hitting in career head-to-head meetings. Their last meeting was also at a team event, the Davis Cup Finals in Spain, and he would be hoping to come out on the right side of the outcome as he did then.

Part of a strong German contingent led by the reigning ATP Finals champion and current World No.3 Alexander Zverev, Struff is keen to turn the tables on the feisty British tennis star this time and Evans could ill-afford to take him lightly.

Struff Hoping to Get Germany Off to a Winning Start

Despite a big serve and power-packed game at his disposal, the German failed to lift his maiden Tour title last year . However, he did come close on two occasions, finishing runners-up at the Bavarian International in Munich and losing in the semi-finals of the St.Petersburg to American Taylor Fritz.

His last event, the Rolex Paris Masters last year, saw  Struff go down to another American Tommy Paul in straight sets.

However, the new season presents a fresh opportunity for the big German to get himself and his team off to a winning start at the ATP Cup. Though fronting up against a rival he couldn’t beat in two career meetings, Struff would be hoping that those small percentages, which often makes the difference to the outcome of a tennis tie, would fall his way this time.

The German would yet again count on his big serve and heavy ground strokes to catch his British rival off-guard but needs to sustain his momentum to come out a winner.

Evans v Struff Prediction and Tip

Carrying a 2-0 career head-to-head lead into this first-round clash, Evans would start as a favorite against Struff. However, the German has the game to upend top rivals on his day and would be quietly optimistic on springing an upset on the Briton this time.
