Ashleigh Barty v Elena Rybakina Head to Head

In their one and only encounter on the WTA Tour, Barty was the winner in straight sets with 6-3, 6-2. The game took place right here in Melbourne in the 2020 Australian Open.

Rybakina, Eyeing a Top 10 Entry

Elena Rybakina is just one win away from writing history and etching her name in the books to become the first female Kazakh to reach the top 11 in the WTA rankings.

Following a rather muted spell in 2021, the 22-year-old has already stormed into her first WTA singles final since the Strasbourg Open in 2020.

Over the course of the week in Adelaide, she has played some brilliant tennis to move past the likes of Storm Sanders, Marie Bouzkova, Shelby Rogers, and Misaki Doi. Rybakina never looked in any real trouble throughout these games. Of course, the last year’s French Open quarterfinalist may have also benefited from the early exits of Maria Sakkari, Elina Svitolina, and Aryna Sabalenka.

Rybakina’s rise to prominence has been long in the making, especially after a breakthrough spell in 2020. Back then, she reached five singles finals – two of which were Premier level events. As for her run last season, the current world number 14 reached the semis in Chicago, Tokyo Olympics, and Eastbourne.

Barty Overcomes Swiatek

World No. 1 and top seed Ashleigh Barty couldn’t have asked for a better start to the 2022 season. With a bye into the second round at her home tournament, she has flawlessly dispatched the likes of Cori Gauff and two Grand Slam winners in Sofia Kenin and Iga Swiatek.

The Aussie overcame the defending champion, Swiatek, in an hour and 28 minutes with 6-2, 6-4 – dishing out five aces and winning an impressive 76% of the points on the first serve.

Barty has always been a formidable opponent in Australian tournaments, having reached the final in Sydney, Adelaide, and Yarra Valley Classic. Although she hasn’t won the Australian Open crown yet, it just seems to be a matter of time more than anything else.

The 25-year-old’s track record for the last season stood at 42-8 with five singles titles, which includes Wimbledon and Cincinnati Open. She has been at the top of the game for quite some time now and it is hard to imagine her succumbing to Rybakina, especially at home.

Barty v Rybakina Prediction and Tip

Anything but a win is simply unacceptable from Barty, especially given the advantage and pedigree she has in Australia. Rybakina is a strong player, no doubt, but she will need to bring her A-game if she wants to deliver the upset.

Tip: Barty to win and over 19.5 games in the match: 11/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
