Amanda Anisimova v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Anisimova, Reclaiming her Former Glory

Amanda Anisimova achieved a great deal as a teenager on the WTA Tour before the pandemic and personal problems sidetracked her career.

She peaked at the No. 21 spot in 2019 and kept herself afloat in the top 30 the following year. In 2021, the American played a lot more professional tennis but couldn’t make much of it. The 20-year-old was beaten mainly in the early rounds, except for the Canadian Open where she made it to the third round as a qualifier.

Now in Melbourne, Anisimova has reached her first singles final since the 2019 Copa Colsanitas.

She entered the competition as World No. 78 and has beaten a handful of experienced players to make it this far. In the opener, she took out Alisan Van Uytvanck in three sets and followed it with wins over Sorana Cirstea and Irina-Camelia Begu.

In the semis, she met the Russian prodigy Daria Kasatkina and handed her a lesson with a clinical, 6-2, 6-0 rout. It was among Anismova’s most clinical performances, needed just 57 minutes to win the match.

So far in her career, Anisimova has beaten a few top 10 players like Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep, and Elina Svitolina. Therefore, it may not be that hard to imagine her overcoming Sasnovich in the final either.

Sasnovich Off to a Great Start in 2022

Aliaksandra Sasnovich, currently ranked World No. 107, started in the Melbourne Summer Set 2 as a qualifier. Despite taking the longer route, she has made it all the way to the final in a remarkable fashion.

After breezing through the qualifiers, the 27-year-old Belarusian defeated Xinyu Wang in the main draw opener with 6-4, 6-2. In the following round, she moved past Rebecca Peterson with a similar score.

In the latter rounds, things got more interesting for Sasnovich as she now had to face seeded players in Clara Tauson and Ann Li. Against Tauson, the qualifier got a bit lucky as her opponent withdrew in the second set after trailing 3-6, 0-2. With Li, Sasnovich had to put in more effort.

That semifinal bout lasted for roughly two and a half hours which was ultimately won with 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3.

Sasnovich is now set to play in her first WTA singles final since January 2018. With four years in the making, it will be interesting to see how she will fare. For what it’s worth, she did reach the fourth round in Indian Wells last year, defeating Emma Raducanu and Simona Halep en route.

Anisimova v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip

Anisimova has a superior pedigree which makes her the odds-on favourite. However, Sasnovich has experience on her side and fairly more momentum in 2022.

Expect the American to come out on the top.
